What is FootGolf?
FootGolf is, as the name suggests, a combination of golf and football. It is played on a real golf course with a regular football. The aim is to get the ball into a hole with a diameter of 52cm in as few kicks as possible. These holes are specially designed for playing FootGolf.
A FootGolfer strives for the same accuracy as a Golfer. There is no better place than a perfectly maintained pitch on an official golf course to showcase your kicking technique. In addition to insight, precision, the necessary calmness and the pedaling technique, a FootGolfer must also take into account bunkers, water obstacles and the wind in a sometimes hilly landscape.
FootGolf was founded a few years ago on the initiative of former professional football player Willem Korsten. During his career he already played a similar variant in training. The intention was to get the ball from the training field into the locker room in as few steps as possible.
FootGolf has grown tremendously in recent years. In 2012, a small-scale World Cup was organized in Hungary, where 8 countries were active. Meanwhile, the sport is played all over the world and with the FIFG (Federation International Footgolf) an umbrella federation that ensures, among other things, that the game is played according to the same rules everywhere.
In Belgium, the tournaments are organized by the BFGA (Belgian FootGolf Association).
